AJ Wears :: Stripes and a skirt

I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend! Mine was filled with a little furniture shopping and a lot of laying around, of which I am a huge fan. In other news, HAPPY SEPTEMBER! FALL IS HERE! Pumpkin flavored everything! Leaves and orange and boots and fur! GET READY! ...just kidding. It was like 100 degrees here this weekend. We were spoiled with a fall weather preview a few weeks ago so now the anticipation of cooler temps is killing me.

As I get older, it gets more and more obvious that flats are comfortable and necessary. I love my collection of heels, but they aren't super practical for things like running errands. A pair of flats has to be pretty special to make it on my feet though, so I'm always looking for fun flats with great details. These studded flats are cute enough that I actually want to wear them, and don't feel like I have to. I'd actually forgotten about them until I started looking at Valentino flats today (HA LIKE SO NOT HAPPENING) and realized I had something just as cute! I love reconnecting with old favorites.

Friday Favorites Remix :: A thrifted purple skirt

Hurrah! Another Friday, another remix. Since last week's "How to wear clothes that are too small for you" tutorial was such a success (and y'all loved this skirt so much) I decided to show another way I wear skirts that don't actually fit me.

Tying up a shirt over your tiny skirt is another way to trick people into thinking you're wearing your clothes properly. I love these types of shirts that have ties already - I've bought a few from Forever for cheap and they're great for layering over dresses and skirts for something a little different. I knew I wanted to use one of these tied crops today, so I started with this orange one and some nude sandals. It was a WHOLE LOTTA COLOR. Man, I was just a walking blob. So I opted to swap that for this fun printed top and slingbacks for a more vintage feel.

The print on this shirt is too adorable. I love the black piping, too. It's like 50s rockabilly meets cowgirl meets tween because I totally got it at Forever 21. I love it because it actually ties lower on the waist instead of a crop, so you can wear it with normal pants instead of just high-waisted things if you've an aversion to showing people your belly button.

And here's how I wore this skirt last week!

AJ Wears :: A ruffled dress

Ugh. Is there anything more frustrating as a blogger who relies on photos to tell a story than totally messing up the photos? I thought we had that "perfect golden light" this evening (I mean, come on, it was like 8pm). I knew the parking lot wasn't the best backdrop, but it was less awkward than trying to take pics while people waiting for a table at Mellow Mushroom looked on. What I ended up with, however, is less than ideal.

Still, the pictures tell a story, so I can hardly complain. I had a fantastic dinner with friends, joined the Mellow Mushroom Beer Club (I even got a card! Hurrah!), and enjoyed a new restaurant in Little Rock. The weather was divine for a June evening and I finally got to blog these adorable wedges. So even though the pictures might be far from my ideal, the evening was not. I love summer nights.
