AJ Wears :: Red, White, and Blue

Happy 4th of July, everyone! I'm busy stuffing my face with hamburgers and hot dogs (and whatever else I can get my hands on) but had time to post a quick patriotic outfit for Independence Day.

I originally made this skirt a few years ago for the 4th after seeing an adorable dress that was stripes on top, full skirt on bottom from Lulu's. I didn't want to spend $50 on it, and I knew even if I did it wouldn't make it in time for the festivities, so I bought some fabric instead and made just the skirt! It's come in pretty handy for other things (like Razorback games) so it was definitely worth the time...which was basically cutting a circle out of fabric and sewing a waist on it. I always feel bad when people are like, "OMGWHEREDUGETTHATSKIRT???" and I'm like..."I made it...." and then you can just see the disappointment on their faces, because they're like..."Who the heck makes their own clothes anymore? I'd rather just go naked."

I hope you all have a fabulous holiday. Wear your sunscreen and don't blow anyone up. I'm linking up with Walking in Memphis in High Heels for her Trend Spin link up today too, check out all of the red white and blue! It'll make your face light up like a sparkler! Or a roman candle! Or maybe you'll just be like, cool.

AJ Wears :: A Studded Vest

I think I've figured it out, you guys. I tweeted asking what the heck people wear in the south and still look cute when it gets in the 90s & 100s. I normally give up and go to cut-offs and tank tops (I don't even bother with a bra when the humidity is high...tmi?) but it just gets so BORING. And not exactly what I'd consider "polished". So, I've always been a vest girl, and they're back big time this year, so I'm just going to wear vests this summer. Layers!

To be honest, I bought the vest I'm wearing specifically to go with these jeans. I love the jeans but they're not exactly easy to pair, even with all of the colors in them. I thought the floral + studs would be cool. I don't care if I'm wrong. I took my vest to the mall and bought another vest. I MAY WEAR IT TOMORROW. I'm a rebel like that. And then I realized The Limited had a sale for 50% off starting at 5pm so I sat in the food court and waited like a dork. But it was totally worth it.

So, that's a lot of words to say, I'm going to wear a lot of vests this summer and y'all can deal. Word.

I'm making my big debut over on Franish with my "BEHIND THE BLOG" today! Go check it out and give her grief for letting someone so small potatoes take over ;)

Three Ways to Wear :: JustFab's Floral Denim

Occasionally I like putting together multiple looks using one piece. I do this on polyvore all the time when I'm bored, actually. But it's fun to create something new using what you find in your closet and making the most out of your wardrobe. JustFab sent me these fun printed skinnies and instead of just wearing them, I wanted to put together three ideas (since everyone isn't me). Actually, the idea of a "lookbook" came from my blogger friend Kat, who makes the most beautiful layouts. I've been playing with it on photoshop and it's pretty easy for me to run into the bedroom, put together a new look, run out to the garage and shoot it on a white backdrop. And I like the way it looks. So thanks for the inspo, Kat :)

Look 1 :: Printed denim might not be appropriate for ALL work places, but anyone in a creative field or casual work environment could wear a funky print with a blazer. This look is also something I'd wear to brunch, coffee, client meetings, etc. It's a way to dress up a trendier piece. I also liked a bright color with the dark print.

Look 2 :: Something I'd throw on for errands or to run to the dog park. Clearly I need a new favorite white tee, this one is not that flattering...but I like wearing a scarf or bold necklace over a slouchy tee to give it some interest. Flats or tennis shoes finish off the look.

Look 3 :: Okay, after I put together all of the looks, I wished that I had either used a bright blazer for the work look (instead of black) or something else here. I think these pants can be styled beyond black and white, but those are definitely the easiest to grab. I wanted to put these with my leather peplum but y'all have seen that a lot lately. So this is my party/concert/going out with girlfriends look.

So there you have it. Three ways to wear some floral(ish) printed denim. Boom. If you want some to play with, JustFab has this print and like a zillion others on their website. I'm loving the new fits of the printed denim and eyeing the painter's palette for my next purchase! They're a soft, stretchy material that I think is TTS for most prints and pretty comfortable.
