AJ Wears :: A t-shirt dress

You know that slouchy, soft tee in your closet you always grab on the days you're feeling uninspired or icky? The comfortable cotton one, that's almost stretched out of shape completely and pilling and rubbing thin in places. The one you can't seem to get rid of until you replace it...and even then, it'll probably become a sleep shirt or workout top.

That's how I feel about this dress. It's not particularly shapely or flattering (minus the color, which I look totally awesome in thanks to my matching eyes) but it's comfortable and familiar. I used to belt it to combat the baggy shape, but now I welcome the shapeless way it hangs, particularly for sticky summer afternoons.

Of course, bold accessories like studded gladiators and a tassel necklace help me from feeling like I'm wearing a sleep shirt in public. Although...basically....I am. And that's why I love it.

Dress, Old Navy (SO OLD, WOW).

AJ Wears :: A blazer and jeans

I hate it when people call a particular outfit their "uniform". I've worn a few uniforms in my life - scrubs when I worked at a hospital, an ugly black polo when I worked at Chili's, various sports team and dance uniforms....none of them bring a warm fuzzy feeling to mind the way a blazer, skinny jeans, and striped tee do. If I had a uniform though, it would probably look something like this.

When I don't know what else to put on, it's stripes. When I want to look more polished, I add a blazer. And when I know I'm going to be hitting the mall hard, I pack my loafers. These are particularly fun because of the spikes.

I haven't decided if I'm going to do a shopping haul or not, but I had the most successful shopping weekend. My mom and sister and I are bad news when we go shopping together. I had a few things on my wishlist for the weekend - a black circle skirt, a floral blazer, and a really nice leather bag - and I managed them all (along with far too many extras!). My sister built a whole outfit after finding these adorable sunflower shorts at American Apparel. My mom said she bought mostly tops, while I seemed to grab only jackets. I don't do these big shopping weekends often, so it's fun to go splurge once in a while.

AJ Wears :: A Pug Umbrella

 Can you wear an umbrella? Or just carry it? Whatever. The point is, we're having a stormy day and I got to break out this adorable umbrella my friend Amy got me for Christmas. Have you ever seen anything more perfect? And you know my rule - bright colors on dreary days, so I dipped into my drawer of colored skinnies and pulled out this pink number.
 I also took the opportunity to pop on these fabulous gold flats from ShoeDazzle that arrived recently. I fell in love with Jessica's (Here&Now Blog) gold loafers and have had my eye on these for a while. Then they invited me to try their new VIP program and I couldn't resist $10 off! I love them.

 PS - I painted my nails and while this is hardly a beauty blog, I love this new polish set I picked up from Walgreens yesterday. It's Revlon's Moon Candy in Cosmos and just too fun. The little metallic flecks you get to paint on top make your nails look like little pieces of art. And it's easy...ain't nobody got time to paint a whole mural on their hands.

Umbrella, One Kings Lane.
Blazer, Luella for Target.
Tee, Old Navy.
Jeans, Forever 21.
