AJ Wears :: A Lemon Dress

On my way to work this morning, I thought extensively about the new Beauty and The Beast. While it was magical and enchanting and Emma Watson was a lovely Belle, I found myself thinking it would have been even better had they hired someone who could really sing. Her voice was so over-processed and pushed that they could never have tackled one of my favorite numbers from the Broadway show, Home. A more seasoned singer could have knocked that out of the PARK and introduced a beautiful song to new generations. This is what bothered me about La La Land too - I TOTALLY get that Emma & Ryan would draw in a crowd, and the movie is about normal "just like us" people but why not give that opportunity to a Broadway actress? As someone who spent years of her life in musical theatre and voice lessons, it's always bothered me when lesser-known actresses get glazed over for famous girls that can't really sing that well.

Side note: Did you hear Emma Watson was cast in both B&TB & La La Land and had to choose? Ugh. Really loved you as Hermione and feminist, tho.

WHILE I'M ON THE SUBJECT - Can we please get a lesser known musical for those "blah blah blah LIVE!" productions? Err'body in the world has seen Grease. Let's see Crazy For You or Thoroughly Modern Millie or Kiss Me Kate or okay now I'm just naming all of the musicals I like.

Anyway, here's what I wore this weekend.

And since I only managed to snap two photos on my iPhone of this outfit, here's a selfie with a corndog. Super casual.

Dress, Forever 21 (as I predicted on Twitter - this has sold out. Check local stores and blame Gal Meets Glam's large following for buying it out // this one's cute tho).
Shoes, Donina by JustFab.
Bag, Louis Vuitton.

AJ Wears :: Interesting Shoes

Who's ready for some WEEKEND WEAR? On the rare occasion that I change out of my pajamas and into real clothes, it's usually to go out with friends. This outfit was built from the ground up - I started with the shoes.

These shoes are odd. I knew when I ordered them they'd be hard to pair. But they're intriguing to me, which made them intriguing to other people too. I ended up getting a lot of comments and compliments on my shoes Friday night, which were clearly the star of the show. Bonus? They're short enough that I was actually comfortable. Imagine that, killer heels that don't actually kill your feet.

Dress, Everlane.
Shoes, Shoedazzle (exact).
Bag, Alexander Wang (The Mini Rockie!).
Glasses, Prada.
Necklace, BaubleBar.

Work to Weekend :: Striped Pants

I love figuring out how to wear items in different settings. A pair of dress pants for a girls' night out, a slouchy casual top for date night, a classic LBD to the beach. Work to weekend has always been one of my favorite features on the blog, and since I've been wearing my favorite items more times and more places, it was time to bring it back.

Today's challenge: These slouchy striped pants. They've got a cool vibe that I loved the second I put them on, and I could easily imagine them in a number of settings. Work, date night, beach...they felt like they could work every day. First up: How I wore them to work. This long trench flowing behind me when I walked made me feel way cooler than I actually am, and adding a bright top made my Monday feel much less blah-y.

Fast-forward to the weekend, and I threw these pants on for brunching with my lady friends. It was a beautiful crisp day, perfect for a patio as long as you had a light sweater. Later that evening, I swapped my slide sandals for scrappy heels and wore a black silk tank and leather jacket. Date night. Boom.
