AJ Wears :: A Pantsuit

I'll admit it - I did not care about politics the first time I was able to vote. I was actually doing a semester abroad in Australia for the 2004 election and forgot to get an absentee ballot, so I didn't exercise my right to vote until much later. Honestly, I didn't have the time or passion to care until I met my husband, a news junkie who couldn't wait to vote when he turned 18.

I'm glad my husband got me interested in politics. In a world where young people can be so apathetic about so many things, it feels good to care about things

I'm not going to make this more political than that; a fashion blog is a place for life's daily costumes, not opinions on who should run the country. But it felt appropriate to commemorate what I'm wearing today, which is probably more of a statement than I could possibly write. No matter who you're siding with today, get out there. Vote like your country depends on it.

And also send me all of your pantsuit selfies.

AJ Wears :: A Black Maxi

There are a few things that all girls say when someone compliments them.

1. "Thank you! I got it at (weird store, like Walmart), can you believe it?"

2. "Oh my gosh, thank you. This thing was like, $7."

3. "It has pockets!"

Yes, my friends, this lovely structured shift has pockets, a magical feature most gals can't keep to themselves. They held nothing but my hand as I posed for these pictures or stood awkwardly waiting for someone to tell me what to do, but everyone knows: Pockets on a skirt or dress make it instantly 1000x better.

AJ Wears :: Trouser Jeans

Fun fact time! About 7 or so years ago, I was a manager at The Limited. I'd say about 70% of my closet was Limited by the time I left, including a gorgeous pair of trouser jeans in a teensy size 2. Life happens and I eventually grew out of those amazing jeans, which were absolutely perfect for work, weekend and beyond.

When I saw these at The Limited last week, I almost couldn't believe it. The cut has modernized slightly, but the bones are still there. A deep blue wash, pleated front, and a fabulous wide leg (at 40% off, of course). Paired with my favorite Schoolboy blazer from J.Crew? Fall work wear magic, people.
