AJ Wears :: A Vest + Dress

I hope you all had a fabulous holiday weekend! Mine was filled with Ugg boots, leggings, and a lot of online shopping. We went home to my parent's house for a few days and most of my activities consisted of eating and sleeping. I love that we have a holiday in America that's specifically devoted to both of those things.

Anyway, I've worn nothing the past few days you'd want to see in person, let alone a blog, except this dress + vest combo to church yesterday morning. My husband said he thought I was putting on a robe, so I added a vest...even though it was 75 degrees. Ah, Texas in the winter. Anyway, the end of the story is that sometimes you can wear a vest over a dress and it makes things slightly more interesting. Also, a pug always makes your outfit look cuter.

AJ Wears :: A Wrap Dress

I started watching House of DVF last night, and it's awesome. If you love fashion, business, and Diane von Furstenburg, it's a must see! I think it's safe to say that the wrap dress is iconic - I've been dreaming of owning one of hers for years. They're smart, sexy, and seriously flattering. Perfect for work, date night, even cocktail parties with the right accessories. I've owned a couple of imitators, but last month DVF popped up on Gilt and I decided to splurge on a classic black wrap.

I have to say, it was a great decision. It's a jersey knit so it's super comfortable, fits like a glove, and I wouldn't be surprised if I wear it for the rest of my life. I went with the Julian Mini Wrap in hopes that it wouldn't need to be shortened. It hits right above my knees (I'm 5'2") so it's PERFECT. I did order a size up after reading a few reviews.

I don't know what I'm doing in this photo, but it was one of the only photos without my coat on. You're welcome.

AJ Wears :: (another) Short Suit

Who What Wear has a bad habit of listing things they think you can wear to work that 95% of most women in reality, could not. I love the idea of a short suit, but I'm not entirely sure if it's actually allowed. On the one hand, shorts are probably more modest than skirts because they can't fly up. On the other, if I wore shorts as long as office-appropriate skirts, I'd look like I was one of the von Trapp kids. So until I figure it out, I'll settle for date night short suit. Subtly sexy, always put together.

Fun fact - these shoes are actually fringey! They have two layers of fringe that can be removed, making them two shoes for the price of one. I wore the fringe for my birthday and a week later, wore them sans to dinner. The color is gorgeous, so hello, favorite summer shoes.
