Faking Fall :: The Cropped Sweater

The word "cropped" is enough to bring terror into the hearts of many. But as is the case with most trends, there's a way to do the trend that's a little more subtle. Layering a cropped sweater over a longer top is one of my favorite ways to add a little interest to an outfit - and, bonus, it makes an outfit feel decidedly more fall-like for 90* days.

This one's a little tighter than I'd originally hoped (blast this weight gain and the boobs that come along with it!), but it did give me a little bit of an autumn boost on a day that I honestly felt like melting. To make this trend work for you, I'd choose a chunky knit with a bit of an oversized feel (see how I wore this trend during the winter here). Trend officially tackled.

AJ Wears :: A Burgundy Hat

I wore my black wide brim fedora two days in a row recently, and realized that I needed more hats. They're the best way to hide less than fresh hair, and they're super cute. Period. This hat also shielded me from some rain on my walk to my car, which really put the function in fashion.

Plus, you know. It's my favorite color right now.

My latest necklace from Rocksbox is SO. GOOD. I'm planning on buying it, I love it so much. I have loved my Rocksbox subscription and highly recommend it - for only $19 a month, you get to rent designer jewelry, and buy at a discount if you really love it. I just did hats, so...Love this sweater? I also wore it this way:

AJ Wears :: A Cropped Sweater

My husband got me a gift card to The Limited for our anniversary in September. I made good use of it and bought a couple of blouses and a pair of grey tweed pants.

...That sat in the bag on my dresser for over a month.

It's not that they weren't cute pants. They really were! But I never wore them, and I felt like they were maybe a little too wide for my height, and I knew I'd wear something else more. So I dropped by the mall Saturday to finally exchange them for something I WOULD wear. And there it was. Black, cropped, perfectly practical but a little bit fun. I know, I know, I've got to stop with the black. But I knew I'd wear a black sweater, cropped or not, a heck of a lot more than I'd ever wear those tweed pants.
