AJ Wears :: A Striped Coat

Like it or not, Pinterest influences us even when we're not looking for inspiration. When I got ready this morning, I slowly pieced together each part of this outfit knowing my end goal was to wear this striped coat. What I didn't realize is that I'd inadvertently pulled inspiration from Blair Eadie without even looking through my Pinterest boards. It's not exact, of course, but about halfway through my day I had this feeling I'd seen this outfit in some way before.

But that's cool, right? Designers are constantly pulling inspiration from others. We all used to cut pages out of magazines to save our favorite items and outfit ideas - I still have my notebook full of outfit inspiration I cut and pasted from magazines: the original Pinterest. While many may say that Pinterest has made fashion homogenous, I argue that the inspiration can make people push their style even farther. I used to hate it when people would re-pin an outfit of mine and say things like, "But with different shoes!" or "I would never wear red, so with yellow or green instead," (because my outfits are perfect always, duh) but what those people were doing is taking an outfit aesthetic that they liked and remixing it to make it their own. And that, my friends, is pretty darn cool.

AJ Wears :: A Bow Tie

I love a good bow tie. I fully embraced the bow blouse (playfully named the pussy bow since 1934) when it started returning to the scene a few years ago, and now it's so mainstream you can actually buy BOW. TIES. That's right, I've ordered two from Asos since I discovered this excitement. I can now add a bow to any collared blouse I like, making my wardrobe just that much more prissy.

Also, sometimes I mix black and navy. Get with it.

AJ Wears :: A Bunch of Black

I just can't with the 90's (temps, not the era. all hail overalls!) any more, so when I got dressed this morning I just NEEDED SOMETHING. So I added a vest. I wouldn't normally wear a long vest with some culottes, but I've gone crazy. Something in my head has snapped, and now I just wear whatever pops into my head because FASHION. I'm even wearing Spanx so it all hangs properly, because I'm an ADULT. FALL. UGGS. BUZZWORDS.

An adult who uses A LOT OF CAPS LOCK OKAY??? I'm actually not sure I brought a full brain back from Vegas, but I did bring some nice presents for myself from Neiman Marcus. Now enjoy this extremely odd outfit that I actually really enjoyed wearing today, even if it kind of looks like a muumuu. I'm just embracing the 90 year old inside of me.
