AJ Wears :: Lace Extenders

Remember that time I forgot to blog for a month? Me either. Truth is, sometimes you've got to take a break and you can come back fresh and better than ever.

I promise to eventually add some posts about France, because it was awesome. But first!

Boot Cuffs & Socks featured me on a blog post of theirs recently (see it here, SO nice!), and reached out to see if I'd be interested in reviewing their products. Since it's still in the 80's here in Arkansas (omg so fall), it's a *little* early for boot cuffs, but I loved the idea of their Shorts Extenders and took them for a spin.

Basically, they're little cotton shorts with lace on the ends to wear underneath your shorty-shorts for a new look and a little extra length. And let me tell you - these things are HANDY. Not only are they super comfy to wear, they take care of one really big problem I always seem to be complaining about - thigh rubbing!

I actually threw these in my bag for France and wore them under skirts, too, which was an awesome little solution to the dreaded chubrub, and really handy for modesty purposes like riding a bike or sitting on steps somewhere. Not into black? They're available in white as well! I snagged this photo from their website so you could see how cute they look peeking out from cutoffs.

And, full disclosure, I've been wearing my white ones as sleep shorts. They're like super cute little bloomers that I throw on under a long tank. Like I said - versatile! The actual shorts are a soft jersey material, so they're very comfy for long wear.

Big thanks to Jamie and Boot Cuffs & Socks for sending the samples for me to try, and check out their website for some super cute "Faking Fall" boot cuffs. If you're gonna wear boots in the south right now, using a cuff instead of a full sock is a really cute way to change up your look.

PS - As far as sizing goes, the chart is pretty spot on. I measured my thighs as the most important part, since the lace doesn't have as much give, and the XL is a perfect fit. Thighs for days, y'all.

Why I'm Bringing Back the Skort

Arkansas summers are hot. That's not a surprise, considering it's the south, but now that I walk a lot more I've noticed a disturbing trend - wearing skirts inevitably ends in chubrub®. Sure, I'd love to lose about 100 lbs so my thighs no longer touch and I don't have this problem anymore, but that's not gonna happen, so I had to find a better solution.

*clumsy woman fumbles with sauce jar* THERE'S GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY!

For some reason, I was randomly wandering around Belk a few weeks ago (BB likes their shirts and we were in the neighborhood) and I stumbled on the world's most perfect invention: The Skort. I remember them vaguely from my childhood in the 80's, the original "business in the front (skirt), party in the back (shorts!)." These were so much better, though. The shorts...were inside of the skirt.

I've worn spanx to keep my thighs at bay this summer, which leads to lots of sweating and being uncomfortable, so a lightbulb went off in my head when I saw these. They would be perfect for work, perfect for walking to work, and perfect for traveling. I bought them in black and white.

While the length might be a little too short for taller girls and more conservative workplaces, I typically can get away with higher hemlines thanks to my height. The material is a glorious, stretchy suiting material and they pull on - no zippers, buttons, nothing. SO. COMFY.

These particular skorts are from a brand called Kaari Blue, which appears to be a Belk exclusive (read: in house) brand. I wasn't able to find them on the website, so check your local store - they were only $15! Here's a similar skort I found at Belk. Belk seems to be the skorts capital of the world, and I'm just going to continue to lean into the fact that I am a 90 year old lady now.

Seriously though, embrace the skort with me. I took the white pair to France and it was amazing to be able to walk without rubbing, bike if I needed to without showing everything, bend over, sit in weird places, etc etc etc. Join me on the dark side.

AJ Wears :: Culotte Overalls

What happens when you combine two ridiculous things into one amazingly ridiculous thing? This outfit. Culottes + Overalls is a combination I had no idea I would be so into until JustFab sent me these schnazzy things. I planned my outfit for the next day, bebopped to work and...got rained on the whole walk home. That's why I'm taking today's outfit photos standing in my dining room instead of in a more hip blogger spot - because the world needed to see another grown woman in *essentially* a playsuit and I refused to deny them this.

Overalls, c/o JustFab.
Top, Lush via Trunk Club (exact - on sale for $15 in three colors!).
Shoes, JustFab (I mean these are kind of similar-ish).
Bag, 3.1 Phillip Lim (similar from Target).
