AJ Wears :: Socks with Heels

When I go in on something, you guys know I go ALL IN, right? I couldn’t buy just one pair of fancy socks to try the socks and heels thing. I had to order 10 different pairs from Amazon so we could do a trial and error run before finding the perfect combination. This was simply the first effort.

Mr. AJ didn’t get it and made fun of me (standard). The guy at the coffee shop said he was digging the look. A couple of people work called them “cute”. I think next time I’ll try an open toe heel or a pair of slides, but I love the idea of cutesy socks with fancy shoes! It’s not like they’re actually keeping our feet warm or anything, but I’m pretending that socks + non-sock shoes is like winterizing them.

What I’m saying is, stay tuned for more socks outfits…whether you like it or not.

Side note: I can see people posing for photos all the time on this parking deck from my house, and I like to spy on them with binoculars. Now I’m the one casually posing during my lunch hour like a doofus, but I’m not up there to make fun of myself.

I would have definitely made fun of me during the next photo.

So casual. So normal. I am actually laughing at myself since it was just me and a self-timer, but I don’t know at what. The wind? The fact that I can’t put on a coat properly? Because I feel like an idiot? Likely all of the above.

AJ Wears :: A Muppet Coat

Happy New Year!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I wore this weeks ago. And not to a fancy party or New Year’s bash, I wore it on a regular Sunday afternoon to go watch football or some other sport (clearly I was just there for the wings). Sometimes, a company sends you a c/o item and you pick out something ridiculous and then have nowhere to wear it, so you wear an actual muppet on an un-extraordinary day.

And you know what? I’m gonna do that more this year. Never save a great outfit for a perfect occasion when that occasion might just be life.

Other things I resolve to do in 2019:

  • Brain Stuff: I got in a bad slump last year of zoning out in front of screens. This year, I want to be more active in my downtime. I’m planning on pulling out my piano and doing a refresh course, reading at least 20 books (as opposed to the four or so last year), and sitting down with Mr. AJ for more board games and puzzles in the evening instead of rewatching The Office for the 10th time.

  • Body Stuff: I really fell off the workout wagon in 2018. My Peloton has sat relatively unused by me (Mr AJ continues to kill it, of course), and the gym that’s so conveniently located downstairs wouldn’t be able to pick me out of a lineup of one. More spin, more yoga, and more outdoorsy stuff like hikes and walks this year. And if my PT is reading this, I promise I’ll do my knee exercises at least once a week.

  • Time Stuff: Embrace the power of “No.” I said yes to a lot of stuff I didn’t feel like doing last year, and it resulted in me feeling stressed and annoyed. I tend to feel selfish when I say no, instead of thinking of it as self care or preservation. This year, I promise to not overcommit myself to a bunch of stuff I hate.

  • Shoe Stuff: I will find the perfect pair of black flats this year if it kills me.

  • Travel Stuff: I only have one trip planned right now, but I’d like to get away as much as possible. Definitely planning another international trip this year - Italy? Portugal? Germany? We’ll find out.

Things I Wore :: November 2018

November was a weird month for me. It’s a little light on outfits, not gonna lie - between traveling and some health stuff, I did NOT get dressed. A lot. I could have taken daily photos in my amazing onesie from Aerie that I wore 95% of the time, but I’ll spare you and just link it (trust. you need one).

12/1: This is not the last time you will see this outfit. Apparently Skirt + Sweater + Boots is my winter uniform. All I did was go to work and go get sushi.

12/3: Skipped a day working from home, so this is my Saturday outfit! It was a gorgeous day, with lots to do - I early voted, hit up Chili Fights in the Heights (I’m never eating chili again), saw some live music at Harvestfest, and ended the evening with a few old fashioneds at Big Orange.

12/5: Guess I didn’t get dressed that Sunday. Monday just went to work and then did some plate work at Flying Saucer with my co-workers.

12/6: Did I not get dressed again? This month is weird.

nov-2.jpg

12/7: Got this skirt from Atlantic Pacific’s collection with Halogen and I LOVE it. I used to have a green pleated skirt from Forever 21 I loved, and this feels like the slightly more adult version. I’m also really into deep greens this season, apparently.

12/8: One of my favorite giant sweaters for work and a birthday lunch with my friend Candice. We had champagne at work and I was really glad I wore a tank underneath because I got really hot.

12/9: I have discovered my curling wand again. Why am I not doing these Victoria’s Secret waves every day? Work followed by happy hour again for Candice’s birthday, because we celebrate birthdays like champs.

12/10: ???????????

nov-3.jpg

12/11: Sweater + Skirt + Boots. Love this sweater from a Trunk Club from last year. I’ve been watching too much American Horror Story and apparently wanted to do red eye shadow like Michael Langdon. I look like a demon.

12/13: I’m not even going to figure out where these skipped days are going anymore. SheIn dress I couldn’t resist because apparently I’m back into dresses again.

12/18: My hair looks like trash here but I got it done that day, I promise. Still love this dress from Old Navy.

nov-4.jpg

12/21: Super comfy travel outfit for our trip to Oklahoma City for Thanksgiving! Gap workout leggings are my FAVE.

12/26: I told you you’d see this outfit again.

12/27: I guess I’m back on board with the whole leopard print thing! And when I have no idea what to wear on top, it’s 99% of the time going to be this same button up and sweater combo. These pants from SheIn are really cute - but for some reason, my underwear refused to stay up while wearing them. I spent most of the day tugging at them like a weirdo.

nov-5.jpg

12/28: Another Atlantic Pacific x Halogen piece. This sweater is super cute but pills like crazy, so I have to shave it every time I wear it. I really wanted the blazer too but it was a little large and a little pricey for the material.

nov-6.jpg

12/29: Curling wand is out again. I’ve always wanted to wear sock booties with short pants, so here I am.

12/30: Look at me, I’m a rebel in a crop top at work. I ended up sending this skirt back for a smaller size since it was basically falling down by the end of the day, but I love the sweater material and I think it’ll be a nice addition to my winter wardrobe.

See you in December!
