AJ Wears :: A trench and a dress

I spent my day primarily in meetings today, prepping for a large conference our company is throwing in a few weeks.  Since I work remotely, I don't really NEED to get dressed most days, but when I'm going to be on webcam in a meeting, I at least make an effort to throw on a nice top and sprunch my hair a bit (yes, sprunch). I may have gone a bit overboard by putting on a dress today, but I've been dreaming of a dress + trench combo for a few days.

The verdict, however, is that it's FAR too warm for a trench, even a light one with three-quarter length sleeves. I ditched it shortly after stepping outside. I think I might have been intended for milder temps. I love shorts and a tee as much as the next girl, but I look good in layers. It's going to be a long summer. PS - Please excuse the bruises. I fell out of a canoe this weekend.

Edited to add :: I wrote this post Monday afternoon, after watching tornado coverage all afternoon. My heart and prayers are with everyone in Moore and anyone affected by this storm. It hits close to home, because living in the path of tornadoes is something you never get used to but always have to be prepared for. I texted my sister this afternoon after I heard about the tornado on the way to make sure she was okay and aware. She was at the mall (are we sisters or what?) and assured me that she would be fine as long as it didn't take a weird turn north. It feels odd and clunky to address something that has my heart so heavy when all I really do is take pictures of what I'm wearing every day, but it didn't feel right to blindly ignore it either. I may edit this post a million more times throughout the day, but the sentiment is the same - I'm thinking about you.

Now it looks like we could get some weather today in Arkansas, so if you need me, I'll be in my closet. In flats. Stay safe, you guys.

AJ Wears :: A trench coat

Yesterday blogger friend Sandra and I were discussing what a pain the wind has been lately for taking outfit photos. I feel like I've been in a wind tunnel after just two minutes of snapping pics - doesn't help that it's freezing, too. We should've been on the patio yesterday at brunch! March, you are not my friend.

So basically, I'm glad I got anything I could actually use with these photos and that's about it. This printed chambray shirt from Old Navy was a big hit at brunch (which turned into dinner. the best kind!). It might be my new favorite shirt. Also, I probably don't wear this trench enough. One time I almost lopped the arms off to turn it into a vest. That would have been really weird.

AJ Wears :: A Coral Coat

I got on a colored trench kick a couple of years ago. No idea why, but I kept them all and I'm always happy to pull them out in the spring. It's a light layer that adds some fun to what might be an otherwise plain outfit (ie, white blouse and black pants).

Let's talk about what's under the coat - simple black and white. Sometimes this classic can seem a little "waiter" to me, so I like to keep it fresh with fun details like the jewelry and shoes. I found these pants at Forever last week - Sandra has been going on and on about her JCrew Pixie pants and I thought they were genius. Looks like pants, but feels like pajamas? I'M IN! So when I stumbled across these at XXI for 1/5 of the price, I had to try them out. So far, I'm pleased. They have little zippers on the front, which is a fun detail and a zipper on the back, which makes them feel like pants. They're listed as leggings, but are much thicker material and have a lot more structure. I'm intrigued. For the record,  I did roll them under for this outfit to show off the shoe straps.

As for the shoes, I love them and just had to have them when I saw them (love the chunky heel!) but they might be the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned. I don't know why, but they rub my feet in ALL of the wrong places. I have no idea why, the reviews say they're pretty comfortable, but I did not find that to be the case. I'm going to have to figure out how to prevent so much rubbing when I wear them again.

Trench, Old Navy (love this one).
