How to Wear :: Metallic Jeans Three Ways for the Holidays

OH HAY Y'ALL. It's almost Christmas! Imagine my excitement. Then explode that by a million and that's how much I love the holidays. So here's an extra special super bonus blog for you guys this week - three holiday looks using the latest trend, metallic denim.

I've been seeing fancy, sparkly jeans all over lately so when JustFab released their holiday denim collection, I was all over it. They have metallic jeans in gunmetal (what I chose), black, and bronze. The material is a little thinner than the solid colors of the signature skinnies, but I found they fit true to size as well. My favorite part - they're not too long for short people like me. You can't buy a pair of skinnies without a sheen right now. It's hot, let's work it.

Layering is a great way to make tops more office appropriate, but I think people forget you can layer a sleeveless top OVER things, instead of just under! I love this peplum top because it has a little bit of sparkle and funk (check out this back zipper!)

Try layering a structured top over a button up or long-sleeve tee for a totally new look that will keep your warm without covering up the cuteness. This look is pretty much perfect for work-to-weekend too because the top has a little shine!

Outfit 2 is all about what you have to accomplish before the 25th - I actually wore this out shopping, for a little baking, even to grab all of my Christmas dinner groceries. Flat boots will keep you walking all day long and a chunky, cozy sweater in a fun color will keep you warm without a coat (perfect for mall walking in search of the perfect gift).

PS - a fun necklace always makes a sweater feel a little more special.

Can you see the sheen on these jeans?? I love how they look grey at first glance, but then you discover they're just a little more exciting. They're SO fab.

This is the most obvious, but a metallic jean is PERFECT for a night out! Whether its a fabulous holiday party or gift exchanging with your favorite girls, don't be afraid to mix some fabrics and add a little color to make a party appropriate outfit. I went with a bright pop in silk, a staple jacket in velvet, and mixed in a little lace.

For some reason, velvet just feels more festive. Am I right??

Anyway, that's three ways to rock metallic denim for the holidays - and beyond. They're a lot more versatile than you think, and I'd totally recommend you check out JustFab's holiday denim if you're looking for a cheap way to get into the trend.

What I Wore :: The one that got away

Everyone has that one. thing. that they can't stop thinking about. Maybe it was a shirt that wasn't in your size. Maybe it was a dress that sold out while you were waiting for it to go on sale. Maybe a Kate Spade bag got snatched from your cart during a sample sale (I hope you smacked whoever did that, btw). Whatever it is, I get it. This shirt was almost the one that got away. You guys, this is about to get a little dramatic. Feel free to turn up the Katy Perry and play along.

I'd been stalking it on Forever 21's website for days. It was pinned to my shopping board. I was thinking I'd make it into the store to see if they had it, but then - then it sold out online the same afternoon I'd finally decided to just buy it. No trace of it in the store. I went back at least 6 times just to see. I even had friends on FB check their local stores with no luck. Ebay, search engine, repeat. I'd even started examining similar garments to see if I could modify them to LOOK more like this one. Crazy woman on a misson? Check and check. Hell hath no fury like a woman who can't find the tunic she wants (I think Shakespeare wrote that).

And then, the day came. After telling my former manager about it, she emailed me over the weekend to tell me they'd gotten another size run and she'd held it for me in an XS and S. I told her I could be there the next morning. Dreams do come true (and having friends in retail doesn't hurt either).

Where did this ensemble go? Date night, of course. Sushi and sake and good times with great friends. It's such a simple shirt, really. Just a tunic with sequins that has a fun almost tuxedo feel to it. I imagine it'll look adorable with short skirts and tights for holiday parties and maybe even a fabulous wide leg pant. I don't know. All I know is, I was kind of a crazy person stalking this down and it paid off. Shop stalking is like hunting for women, except instead of a license you need a Visa. And maybe a touch of the crazy eyes.

Top: Love 21 (SO, but check in store! - closest I could find)
Leggings, Express (similar).
Booties, JustFab (similar).
Clutch, Forever 21 (similar).

What I Wore :: Outlet Shopping

I rarely make a trip out of town without doing a little shopping. Most of the time, it's hitting stores that I don't have in Little Rock (hello, Zara! what's up, H&M!). BB and I have this rule that we don't go to stores we have unless they're clearly bigger and better. Or in this case, an outlet.

Hang with me here. I know I'm a crazy person to wear wedges instead of flats to a Tanger Outlet mall, but it actually wasn't bad. We weren't on an all day marathon, just an hour or two at our favorites (JCrew, Banana, Kenneth Cole, etc).

As I mentioned before, my beach wardrobe includes all things flowing so this Forever dress with a slight hi-lo hem was perfect in my book. I loved the way it flowed in the breeze. I also got to rock some post-ocean waves, which feel disgusting but look amazing.

Trust me on the wedges. They feel cuter than flats to me and are far more comfortable than heels. I actually picked up some more at Banana at a ridiculous price that I ended up wearing to the wedding. And an orange T-shirt to match this skirt I've been dying to wear. I adore shopping, but I adore getting a ridiculous deal even more.

Dress, Rory Becca for XXI. Wedges, JustFab (Louella). Bracelets, JewelMint.
