AJ Wears :: A spring dress

SPRING! SPRING Y'ALL! This dress made a little splash after my drawing of it in my budget post, so I thought it was funny I was wearing it today. After missing out on a b/w striped dress from The Limited, I saw this one at Forever 21 and snatched it up. I told BB it made me feel like I was on a lake picnic or like I should be frolicking on the beach or something. The good news - it's actually from the Love 21 line, so it's big girl sizing! Yay!

I don't wear flats too often, because they bore me. But I'm a smart girl and knew I couldn't last all day at my wedding in heels, so I bought these flats. They're SO CUSHY. And they have bows and sparkles so they're far from boring. If I'm going to do it, imma do it right.

The end of this story is, I love this dress, it reminds me of Kate Spade for poor people, and it's pretty decently made. I'm already dreaming up other ways to wear it...I do think I'll try to dress it up next time, but a structured bodice + full skirt = classic summer favorite. Until I sweat too much and the stripes all turn yellow. Blast you, Summer! PS - Sorry it's kind of wrinkly. I sit at a desk all day and dog wrangle and I do not steam my clothes after I've already been wearing them. Still holds up pretty decently considering all of that.

Dress, Love 21 (in store, but here's similar in different colors).
Necklace, Target.
Bag, Coach.
Lips, Revlon Lip Butter in Lollipop.

What I Wore :: The one that got away

Everyone has that one. thing. that they can't stop thinking about. Maybe it was a shirt that wasn't in your size. Maybe it was a dress that sold out while you were waiting for it to go on sale. Maybe a Kate Spade bag got snatched from your cart during a sample sale (I hope you smacked whoever did that, btw). Whatever it is, I get it. This shirt was almost the one that got away. You guys, this is about to get a little dramatic. Feel free to turn up the Katy Perry and play along.

I'd been stalking it on Forever 21's website for days. It was pinned to my shopping board. I was thinking I'd make it into the store to see if they had it, but then - then it sold out online the same afternoon I'd finally decided to just buy it. No trace of it in the store. I went back at least 6 times just to see. I even had friends on FB check their local stores with no luck. Ebay, search engine, repeat. I'd even started examining similar garments to see if I could modify them to LOOK more like this one. Crazy woman on a misson? Check and check. Hell hath no fury like a woman who can't find the tunic she wants (I think Shakespeare wrote that).

And then, the day came. After telling my former manager about it, she emailed me over the weekend to tell me they'd gotten another size run and she'd held it for me in an XS and S. I told her I could be there the next morning. Dreams do come true (and having friends in retail doesn't hurt either).

Where did this ensemble go? Date night, of course. Sushi and sake and good times with great friends. It's such a simple shirt, really. Just a tunic with sequins that has a fun almost tuxedo feel to it. I imagine it'll look adorable with short skirts and tights for holiday parties and maybe even a fabulous wide leg pant. I don't know. All I know is, I was kind of a crazy person stalking this down and it paid off. Shop stalking is like hunting for women, except instead of a license you need a Visa. And maybe a touch of the crazy eyes.

Top: Love 21 (SO, but check in store! - closest I could find)
Leggings, Express (similar).
Booties, JustFab (similar).
Clutch, Forever 21 (similar).

Inspired Style :: The Serena

Every now and then, I'm inspired so much by an outfit I see somewhere, I decide to recreate it using what I have in my closet. Usually the idea comes to me because I remember similar items from my closet. I even keep a notebook of outfits I've cut out of magazines for inspiration when I can't figure out what to wear (highly recommend you guys do that!) I've always been a HUGE fan of the fashion on Gossip Girl, and while I'd consider myself more of a Blair than a Serena, I loved this look and realized I had all of the pieces to make the puzzle. The inspiration:

Blue pants? Dazzling jacket? I'm on it! I picked up this jacket recently from Forever 21, from the Love 21 line and it's all kinds of awesome. I randomly saw this photo while I was contemplating how to style it, and thought it was perfect. Here's how I wore it.

Not too shabby, right? Believe me, blue pants are not the easiest thing to style, so I always welcome inspiration.

I love these earrings! I picked them up from Ember last summer and they're so fun and shiny. I worried the gold on gold might be overload, but whatever. I do what I want, Maury.

These shoes have just a hint of leopard print, so they feel more special and sassy than just a pair of black pumps, but they can go with pretty much anything. I think they're kind of unique.

The best picture my camera has ever taken. I have no idea why it came out like this, but I love it, and I want every picture I take to look like this. Props to Sandra for being my photog for the night! Anyway, have you ever tried to recreate an outfit you saw on TV, in a magazine, or on a blog?

Jacket, Pants, Forever 21. Cami, The Limited. Shoes, ShoeDazzle. Earrings, Ember.
