Friday Favorites Remix :: Shorts and a Tee

Hi friends! I'm on THV 11 this morning (5:50 am! Eek!) to talk about affordable summer fashion - so I decided to dress up a plain tee and shorts by using only accessories.

Some of these might seem like a no-brainer, but adding color, pattern, and sparkle using your accessories is a great way to spice up what you're wearing this summer without making yourself overheat.

Scarves - My FAVORITE way to jazz up a summer outfit. I know a lot of people think scarves are only for summer, but stores are selling them in bright colors and fun patterns for summer! Just find one that is a light breezy fabric and wrap it around your neck, wear it as a vest, around your head, even as a belt. It doubles as a sarong on a beach vacation! And if you get too hot, you can always tie it to your bag.

Hats! It's SPF for your face and a fun way to make a statement. Fedoras, panama hats, or something big and floppy!

Fun shoes - Okay, I'm totally a shoe person, so this one is kind of a gimme. But step away from the flip flops and grab some flat leather sandals with a fun gold detail...or go all the way in a floral wedge. The attention will be all on your toes (so make sure your pedi is fresh).

Statement necklace! Le duh. Versona is a great place to pick up something bright and sparkly for summer and it's a great way to add interest and keep cool. I like doing something colorful for day and then switch to something bold and shiny for a night out on the town.

Other ways to add some fun to your outfits this summer :: vests, sleeveless button ups, anything crochet...even crop tops! When layering for summer, skip the sleeves and choose light fabrics so you don't pass out from heat exhaustion. I've given you a few examples of adding layers to your summer outfits below!

Take One, Day 19 :: Sparkly Sweatshirt

I bought this sweatshirt and pants together. I thought the mint would be fun with the bright print. What I didn't anticipate was how much I'd love this sweatshirt. Not only does have fun little sparkles on the shoulders, it's the perfect thing to throw on for lounging around the house. Best of all? Bought it on sale. $7. Boom.

As for the pants, I think they're fun. I was reading Franish's post the other day about pants and I'm with her - I think this kind of pant is more flattering on me than jeans, and I think I'm going to seek out as many as I can. I've always liked pants. Also, I just feel like these pants are more comfortable than jeans. I think it's about where they hit, which is a little higher on my waist, so they don't bake a muffin top. They're softer too. Anyway, we walked from our hotel to this little sushi restaurant we saw on Shark Tank and then spent the afternoon on a patio. The weather in Austin is divine.

Take One, Day 3 :: Neon Yellow Dress

Day three of the remix challenge! One of the things I'm doing with this challenge is picking pieces that are already a little difficult to remix. I often get stuck in a rut with some things in my closet, and wear them the same way every time I pull them out. So this has become a bit of a game for me! I also love that you get to see instant results with this challenge! In 30x30, you really can't see how someone is remixing until the very end when they post all of the outfits. In this, you get to see a remix every day! I'm a little enthusiastic, I know. It's not something I plan on working on because ENTHUSIASM IS AWESOME!

As you can see, for this look I layered a (new) polka dot blouse over the dress (last seen here) and a sweater over that. This sweater is so weird. I have no idea where it came from, when I bought it, or even if it's supposed to be that tiny. The tag says Gap (old school) and it almost looks like someone bought it, shrunk it, and then gave it to me. I love the cropped style though, and usually wear it like this a la Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada.
