30 for 30 Wardrobe Remix :: The Pieces

Today, I'm starting the 30 for 30 Wardrobe Remix Challenge. Kendi Everyday originally started the challenge - and I've followed countless blogs that have taken on the remix challenge over the years. Most recently, Jessica from HereandNow finished the challenge and inspired me to finally try.

The concept is simple - pick 30 items from your closet, and make them into 30 outfits. Most people choose to do so in 30 days, so it's basically a month of wearing nothing but those thirty pieces. Then dress up your remixes by adding accessories - scarves, hats, jewelry, tights, belts are free-for-all pieces you can use to spice up the same 30 outfits.

I've AGONIZED over what to choose as my 30, because it's not so easy. I also have chosen to do this remix while I'm traveling, so I have to choose practical options as well. Believe me, next time I do the remix I'll be choosing sky-high heels, but for a week in NY I knew I had to choose sensible flats, layers for the weather, and many pieces that could do double duty and go day-to-night.

What I'm remixing: 10 tops, 7 bottoms, 3 dresses, 5 cardis/jackets, 5 shoes.
What I'm NOT counting: rain boots (I'm considering this outwear, circumstantial based on weather), camisoles (as long as they are worn UNDER a top and not AS a top), and one cozy cashmere wrap cardi I will be toting to NYC in case of cold weather (counting this as outerwear as well, considering it's summer).

Challenges I'm facing: Travel, of course, is my biggest concern. Going from the South where it's already Summer up North where I'll still need some layers is going to be tough - there are many pieces in my remix I may only wear the first week! I'm also worried when I get BACK to Arkansas there won't be enough variation in my outfits because it'll probably be too warm to layer.

What I want to get out of it: Basically, I have SO MANY CLOTHES I never wear! And I keep reaching for the same pieces over and over again. So I'm hoping I'll learn what my favorite pieces are and why they are my favorite pieces, so I can shop smarter in the future.
